This weekend was the weekend of the Spartan Race European Championships. It just got cancelled.
Official message from Spartan
A few hours ago, just before the start of our 2020 Spartan Race European Championship in Tenerife, against all odds, we received a notification from the Canary Islands Health Service denying permission to hold the event scheduled for this weekend – without reasonable justification and legal grounds. Faced with this decision, we have urgently and administratively submitted an appeal before the Ministry of Health of the Canary Government demanding the immediate authorization of the Spartan Race Tenerife sporting event given the enormous damage to you, our racers that travelled to Tenerife for this event, but also considering the social, economic, operational, political and image implications. A lot is at stake for an event that you worked hard for to race, and our team worked hard for to produce.We continue to work tirelessly to make this event happen. We will definitely inform you at 10 pm today. Friday December 11, if the races scheduled for tomorrow can be held and further information about the next steps.
This is an unexpected obstacle but us Spartans never give up. We very much appreciate your support and we are sorry that for this situation. Thank you very much
